End of January and still very cold!
I was in Milan yesterday and in the early morning it started snowing, luckily turning into a light rain. But across Po Valley it was flocking very strongly, as it did last year, and in Bologna the Sunday football match was interrupted after only 10 minutes playing. The last 3 days in January are called in Italy "the days of the blackbird", and has always considered the coldest of the year. According to popular belief, if they are cold then there will be a beautiful spring, on the contrary if they are warm springtime will not be coming soon. The most common and popular legend tells the story of a blackbird who lookeed refuge with her chicks in a chimney from the very cold weather in those days. The birds came out just the first day of February, showing their beautiful white plumage all blackened by soot: that's why from that day all blackbirds were not white anymore but black.
So, what better than comforting food for supper when weather is so drastically unpoleasant? and for sure one of the most comforting (well, for me!) is a hot, smoking, creamy soup, it will warm you up and even give a sort of embrace to your stomach.
The original recipe calls for cannellini beans (perhaps more delicate) but I had plenty of chickpeas in my pantry and I easily substituted.
As I know quite well my family men and their "masculine character", I did not prepare the vanilla oil, just added ginger, think it's enough as "funny taste", but I wonder if anubody will realize ... anyway, I baked some yellow corn, mustard and cheese cookies to have together, I am sure they will appreciate, the recipe will be on-line tomorrow for BBD# 36.
250 g boiled chick peas
